
Volunteer Opportunities
Responsibilities: Write colorful, accurate descriptions of our dogs to be used on our website, PetFinder and social media to introduce our dogs to potential adopters. Work with shelter staff to gather information on the dogs. Update profiles as needed if the dog stays with us for an extended period of time.
Requirements: Good writing skills including attention to grammar and sentence structure. Ability to write in a creative, positive style.
Adoption Advocates work from home and may come to the shelter to meet new dogs.
Responsibilities: Respond to general phone/email inquiries coming into the shelter about shelter dogs, shelter policies and practices, and adoption information. Upload adoption agreements into database. Provide adopters with electronic copies of all medical records. Register microchips and provide this information with additional post adoption support resources. Update data fields in database.
Requirements: Superior customer service and responsiveness. Needs to have access to email throughout the day. Solid working knowledge of the shelter mission and procedures, and dogs available for adoption.
Time Commitment:
Responsibilities: Act as a liaison between shelter and adopters by providing post-adoption support. Contact adopters by phone or email according to the established schedule to check on how their dog is doing in its new home. Enters information into our database and keeps shelter staff informed.
Requirements: Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
Volunteers work from home and communicate with our Executive Director to gather information to for adoption follow-up.
Responsibilities: Maintain current, engaging information about the shelter on our social media. Provide engaging information about upcoming fundraising events and initiatives, introduction of new dogs available for adoption, recent adoptions, volunteer opportunities, etc. Monitor and respond to posts, comments and private messages from the public, representing the shelter appropriately.
Requirements: Proficient in social media platforms.
Social Media Communicators work from home and communicate with our Executive Director and board members to gather information to publish.
Responsibilities: Works with board members and event chairs to create designs that have high visual impact for web and/or print to include ads, invitations, posters, newsletters, website graphics, etc. Applies a creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.
Requirements: Graphic design experience and software proficiency.
Graphic Support volunteers work from home and communicate with our Executive Director and board members to gather information to support designs.
Responsibilities: Use personal vehicle to transport dogs and/or supplies (i.e. rescue pick up, chauffeuring dogs to/from medical visits, picking-up donations or helping with special event transport). Travel is primarily in the Burnet/Llano/Blanco/Travis/Williamson/Hays county areas.
Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle that is licensed and insured with enough space for kenneled dogs.
Responsibilities: Coordinate with shelter staff and the Volunteer Coordinator for adoption events at established venues. Works with Social Media Communicator and Online Community Outreach on posting adoption events on shelter website, Facebook and other vehicles. Updates internal database to track dogs attending each event.
Requirements: Strong organizational and customer service skills.
Time Commitment: Varies depending on calendar of Adoption Events.
Responsibilities: Cultivates, stewards, and expands relationships with donors; maintains and manages donor information and donor database; acknowledges donor contributions; administers donor recognition program.
Requirements: Strong interpersonal communication and good organizational skills.
Donor Relations volunteers work from home and communicate with our Executive Director and board members to gather information.
Responsibility: Work with the board to create relationships with foundations, corporations and individuals to build a pipeline of new donors, individual and business sponsors, and corporate partners in keeping with the shelter’s overall fundraising strategy.
Requirements: Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills.
Responsibilities: Work with shelter staff, event chairs and other key area volunteers to identify volunteer needs for the shelter and its activities. Oversee and administer all aspects of the volunteer program including recruitment, screening, training, placement, retention, appreciation, evaluation and development. Respond to all volunteer inquiries.
Requirements: Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and build rapport with people. Experience managing people and/or volunteers. Solid working knowledge of the shelter.
Responsibility: Work with shelter staff and board to develop and implement marketing campaigns for the shelter, events, programs and adoptable dogs. Contribute copy, content and visual imagery for shelter publications, digital and social communication and print collateral to engage targeted audiences. Promote the shelter and our adoptable dogs to the public. Identify and maintain media contact list, draft press releases, and work with others to promote specific events and campaigns.
Requirements: Must have excellent writing and editing skills. Must be creative, have excellent organizational and communication skills.
Responsibilities: Work closely with shelter staff, graphic artists and photographers to create clear, compelling and original copy for Volunteer, Donor and Adopter electronic newsletters. Content will include information such as shelter activities, upcoming fundraising events and initiatives, spotlight on community partners, recent adoptions, volunteer opportunities, etc. Create and distribute newsletters in Mailchimp, maintain mailing lists, manage communication calendar.
Requirements: Experience with Mailchimp a must; a strong sense of professionalism and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of contributors.
Responsibilities: Help keep our website content up to date and add new functionality as needed. Keep information current and fresh.

Responsibilities: Take striking photos of our adoptable dogs to show them at their best, cropping and editing as needed. The dogs’ photos will be posted on the shelter’s website, PetFinder and social media to promote our dogs for adoption. Photos may be taken at the shelter, in the foster family’s home, outdoors or at adoption events. Document shelter events through pictures.
Requirements: You must own a digital camera (an SLR camera is preferred) and have the ability to take nice, clear photos. Must have the technical ability to load and edit photos; reliable computer and internet service.

Responsibilities: Create compelling videos of our adoptable dogs, document shelter special events, and assist in creating marketing campaigns. Videos will be posted on the shelter website, YouTube and social media platforms to promote our shelter and adoptable dogs. Work with shelter staff, board and event chairs to bring their visions to life.
Requirements: Must supply your own equipment.
Responsibilities: Coordinate strategic posting of flyers promoting our events at pet-friendly locations throughout the area and the removal of postings once the event has ended.

Responsibilities: Coordinate strategic placement of shelter donation boxes at pet-friendly locations throughout the area and the collection of donations on a regularly scheduled basis. Records cash collected and provides cash and report to shelter staff.

Monitors and maintains shelter inventory of supplies, merchandise and collateral. Orders shelter supplies, collateral and merchandise including Volunteer T-shirts, business cards, dog food, collars and leashes, etc. Locates vendors being sensitive to quality and price. Coordinates with shelter staff and event chairs regarding merchandise for general public purchase; tracks inventory and distribution.
Requirements: Experience ordering and maintaining inventory; strong organization skills.

Database volunteers work from home and at the shelter, communicating with the Executive Director and Shelter staff.
Responsibilities: Plans, coordinates and oversees the design, development and implementation of social events designed to raise funds for and awareness of the shelter. These such events as golf tournaments, dinners, cocktail parties, raffles, restaurant events, etc. In concert with the board and Volunteer Coordinator, assembles volunteers, develops event budget, promotes the event, gathers sponsors and items necessary for successful fundraising.
Requirements: Organizational and administrative skills; excellent people and communication skills.
Responsibilities: Assist in making a fundraising event successful through work in one or more areas such as collecting items for auction or raffle, acquiring sponsors or participants, working at the event itself in various capacities depending on the nature of the event.
